God is also the author of speed, sound
& light ... welcome to the Races.
My day at Summit Raceways on 8/04/2007
in Norwalk with my bro, Kevin.  It's a
collage of 15 hours of noise and fun.
Ever felt the shockwave of a funny car?
WHAT A BLAST!!
This burnout by Cruz Pedregon and the one by Jim Head, to the
right, were taken in the mid-afternoon time frame when the
drivers were checking out track conditions. Most were short
runs because, I guess, they found out the track was hot and
greasy.   Nonetheless, it was sweet.

I don't know much about drag racing except that I like it!
It's louder than any concert I've attended, and it is a
serious rush!  If I get stuff wrong, bear with me ... in fact,
email and correct me so I can make this more interesting.
I am a photographer, and a race fan after the fact, it
seems.  I am living proof that it's never too late ...

Life is the pits ... and this is pit row.
So much to see and so Little time!!

John's new ride unveiled for the evening.  That auto
club must have the dough.
If I recall correctly, John Force Racing has had at least 3
frames come apart ... literally split in two under the
stress.  I don't think they'll slow down, even though some
officials would like to see it ... just try to put measures in
place to protect the driver from greater harm.  JF almost
became another EM.

OK, gotta give a little space to my friend Jim Drury who has the best wax job on his Mustang I have ever seen.
This is a Shelby Cobra 2007 (hope I got that right).  Better pics in the spring.  Note the tiled garage-that's clean
enough to eat off of without a plate or utensils.

OK, fans ... this was a great event, but I have never been so
baked or so drenched in the same 4 day period.  Here are some
hi-lites:
26th)  Thursday: began with a general admission and I got some
decent shots from the starting line same side as pit row.
27th)  Friday:  water from the previous 13 inches of rain seeped
up through the track in the chute area and in the quarter mile.  A
delay from 4:30 til 9:30 eventually ended in cancellation and
fireworks for the faithful.
28th)  Saturday: was an uneventful day but the sky threatened.
29th)  Sunday: was a sweet day until about 2:30 when the sky
fell and the torrent followed.  I left and got absolutely drenched
getting to the car.  But I got some excellent shots.  You'll see.
Oh yeah ... there is nothing
quite like the smell of nitro in
the morning unless you stand
too close and inhale the
exhaust.  Trust me ... it burns
the eyes and throat ... but it
was awesome being that close
when the drivers were making
final preparations.
The final results are as follows,
however I have no idea when
they wrapped it up.

Funny Car:   Tony Pedregon

Top Fuel:   Doug Herbert

Pro Stock:   Greg Anderson

Pro Stock Bike:   Hector Arans

P.S.  I am learning ... a better

This was cool ... a tribute to Scott Kalitta lost the week prior
when his chute failed to open.  Note the RFC from Jim Head's
car.  I would guess you'd want the Lord by your side when you
are approaching 300MPH.

I threw together some tool pics and a
shot of the Head racing shell as well
as a solarized shot of the interior

A question that begs answering:
why
wouldn't you be a Racer For
Christ when you are peaking at 300
MPH riding a 7000 HP piece of
machinery that places you at the
end of a 1/4 mile in 4 seconds and
change, and will place you in
eternity just as quickly?

Just a thought ...

Rain seemed to dominate the schedule this year, of
which this is an example from the 29th.  Mr Force,
below, smoked it but good.  No joy in Mudville!

God helps those

… who help themselves?
Nope!
 Not what the Bible says.
Those who have said this have
meant well, but burdened many with
the notion that they have to figure it
out for themselves before seeking
God’s divine guidance.  The
application of the Judeo-Christian
Work Ethic, and the culture it
breeds, is a prescription for failure.
The message is: if your life hasn’t
turned out right or exactly the way
you or your parents have planned
it, then your are either not smart
enough, not motivated enough, or
not religious enough.  You have
failed … and I bet you never asked
for God’s help, did you?  Asking for
help is for the weak, anyhow.  And
by the way, the strong don’t need
God unless they are in a foxhole.
Uh huh ...

James tells us that we cannot work
it out for ourselves.  It is dependent
upon faith, and out of that faith
come works, not the other way
around.  In the old days (before
1970 or thereabouts) it was
understood that honest work was
not only its own reward (which it is),
but that compensation would be
appropriate for what was done, the
quality of it, and for how much of it
was accomplished.  That is no
longer true, and I doubt that it ever
was.  It was (and still is) based on
legalities, social Darwinism, greed
and guilt.  It was the carrot on a
stick for the common man.

Psalm 40:5  Lord, my God, you
have done many things – Your
wonderful works and your plans for
us;
none can compare with You.
If I were to report and speak of
them, they are more than can be
told.

Psalm 69:30-32  I will praise
God’s name with song and
thanksgiving.
That will please the
Lord more than an ox, more
than a bull with horns and
hooves.
 The humble will see it
and rejoice.
You who seek God,
take heart!

Job 8:5-6  But if you earnestly seek
God, and ask the Almighty for
mercy,
if you are pure and
upright, then He will move even
now on your behalf and restore
the home where your
righteousness dwells.

James 2:22  You see that faith was
active together with his (Abraham’s)
works,
and by works, faith was
perfected.
 (eSword; c. 2005
HSCB)

What are we really being told
here?
These are not my words,
although I will take responsibility for
minor interpretation:

1.)        God has works and plans
for us.  He asks us to be strong and
to work, but not to depend on any
other source but Him.  We are not
required to plan for Him:
HE IS
THE PLAN.
 None can compare with
Him.

2.)        God loves our worship
and a relationship with Him
more than many sacrifices.

Those who seek God, take heart!
This is OT stuff that has been
twisted out of shape for the
purpose of instilling guilt and
creating dependence on things
other than God, like buildings, and
cults of personality, etc.

3.)        If you seek God out, He
is already moving on your
behalf, knowing what is in your
heart, and intent on blessing
you.
Ask for mercy and you will be
forgiven.  In Christ this is perfected
as grace, and saves us from
ourselves and from the temptation
of Satan. This goes along with the
doctrine of praying believing.  Being
pure and upright does not mean
being perfect.
It means trusting
in God even when it seems
crazy, and believing in Him
above all else.

4.)        In James, the discussion
surrounds Abraham’s willingness to
sacrifice Isaac.  The reference
illustrates the concept of
appropriate works as a result of
faith and a Christ-filled heart.  How
can we not act out and produce
fruits if we are truly full of God?
Our cup runneth over, right? But
note that faith precedes works
because works alone do not justify.
Paul tells us, in Romans chapter 5,
that
hope is the result of trust in
God through the Holy Spirit.
 It is
not something we can do or
produce on our own accord.

Only one question:

Does this help you understand
that if you cannot do it alone
that it’s ok?  That life is
designed as a team effort?

Asking God for help is the first thing
we should do not the last thing.

rubber & nitro: sacrifices to
the True Living God of racing
oh seven
To be pure and authentic, to
be found acceptable in the light
of day or to survive scrutiny, is
being true to our Creator God,
and honoring Him by believing
in the real Jesus Christ:  the
Son, the Lamb of God, the Lion
of Judah.  If you are authentic,
and not a counterfeit Christian,
you should venture out and
test the skin you are in.  You
are not delicate and the world
will not dilute your faith … only
you can do that.  Pray for
strength in the Spirit and boldly
go …
