ICE  ICE  ICE  ICE cold  cold  baby  baby
This is how it starts ...
chunks of ice,
chainsaws, torches
and animals as hats.

This page will review
the past three annual
events in Hamilton,
Ohio at their Icefest.

It was in the 20's this
year 2008, but thirty
degrees warmer in
2006.

It was colder than ...
well, you know how it
was in 2005.
where there is fire &
there is ice there
also is God, author
of them both.

dark because
of the ice,
and into
which the
snow

Job 6:16
Has the rain a
father?  Or
who has
begotten the
drops of dew?
 From whose
womb comes
the ice?  And
the frost of
heaven, who
gives it birth?

howling at the

worth the wait in
below freezing

dark riverbank.
They lit a fire
behind it for the
 grand finale.
The two artists that cut out the
wolf in a ring of ice
Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth
the living creature according to its kind:
cattle and creeping thing and beast of the
earth, each according to its kind;" and it
was so.

Below are a few closeups
that I call "masters"
because they appear to be
abstract paintings
This stuff is so organic that it is almost impossible to
imagine it as ice.  The shapes and colors embedded in
the ice itself are indeed amazing, but what makes it
scintillating is the artist's cut across that plane that
opens up what is captured there like a diamond cut
from the rough... releasing the objects God placed
there to be revealed.  The last pic is a shot across the
bridge.
2005 shots
2005 shots
It was so cold that year that I could hardly
hold my camera.  In some ways they were
better, and in some ways they were merely
a decent beginning.  Cameras are funny
pieces of equipment, and I do not always
have mastery over them ... that can be good
and it can be disappointing.  I have always
been able to salvage a few pics.
I think my stuff in 2008 was darker and
stranger.  Maybe not as disturbing as
the clown below, however.
What is the Lord God's version of ice sculpture:
icebergs, glaciers, the tundra, Siberia, Antarctica???

He has done so much that what we accomplish is only
a tiny jewel in His crown studded with frozen stars.
2006 was the last year for an
annual festival.
No lie ... it was in the 50's and stuff was
melting.  Interesting photos in spite, and
maybe because, of the weather conditions.
There was much more of a "shine."
"We are Easter people."
